The Garda Síochána Inspectorate report “Responding to Child Sexual Abuse – A Follow-up Review” followed up on progress made in relation to recommendations in its 2012 report and identified areas where further progress was needed.
In accordance with the Government decision, dated 27 February 2018, an independently chaired inter-agency Implementation Group was established to examine and drive forward the implementation of recommendations in the follow-up report. Chaired by Ms. Caroline Biggs SC, the Group’s membership comprises senior officials from the Departments of Justice & Equality, Children & Youth Affairs, and Public Expenditure & Reform, as well as senior officers from An Garda Síochána and Tusla. The Implementation Group will operate for an initial period of 12 months from the date of its first meeting on 11 June 2018 and is required to report to Cabinet Committee B (Social Policy and Public Services) on a quarterly basis. The first of these progress reports was completed in October 2018. Further progress reports will be published as they become available.
The first progress report of the Inter-Agency Implementation Group was published in January 2019.
